Mark's Experience

Unbeknown to me at the time my career actually began in 1966 at the age of 10 in Amityville, NY when we moved into a large Dutch Colonial home that needed a lot of work. I am number 7 of 9 children and since my father had done a lot of building and is very particular on how a job gets done, he didn’t hire a lot of outside help. As I grew and from time to time we did have to get professional help, I ended up working for an excellent builder that worked for my father after graduating high school. After about a 1-1/2 year apprenticeship the builder retired and I then worked for a couple other local contractors on and off while doing a lot of work on my own. I had a little over a year in a cabinet shop building custom cabinets for installation in Manhattan, NY. From there I worked for a large commercial construction company and that is where I learned how to build with steel studs, hang suspended ceilings and many other aspects of commercial construction. Then in 1980 I decided to get set up in business and got my first contractor’s license. Eventually I was licensed on all of Long Island and NYC. One of my first customers was a growing medical diagnostics group that was just beginning to expand all over N. Y. My commercial experience was paying off and I learned many aspects of some specialized work such as lead lining walls, sound proof rooms, dark rooms, etc.

After doing a very diverse amount of residential and commercial alterations from 1980 through 1996 my family and I moved to Wilmington, NC. Here I continue to serve the public in both residential and light commercial alterations. As the owner/operator, I deal directly with the customers from concept to completion.

Mark Marcley

The picture to the right is when I was building my first and to date only my second barrel vaulted ceiling, this was more like building the hull of a boat.   I really enjoy a challenge and have taken on more than one job that some have said can't be done.   I look forward to helping you with whatever you may need.   Designing, building, remodelig can all be fun.  That's why I call it "Funstruction."

Erik Marcley

Erik is my first son, very artistic and creative.  He took a liking to drafting and studied it at Laney High School.  After graduating he went to Cape Fear Community College to continue his design and drafting education.  He is now proficient in auto CAD.  Erik is also an excellent finish painter and handles all aspects of remodeling.  Check out our gallery and you'll see the "Marcley In-law Suite" he designed; incredible job!

Dylan Marcley

Dylan, as with Erik, has worked for me part time for many years.  Dylan had worked full time with several different electrical contractors for over 5 years and has been full time with me for over 2 years now.  He has refined his building skills significantly and still does great electrical work.

Kristofer Marcley

Kris works with us part time and also works for a local Communications company part time doing fiber optic splicing; a highly specialized line of work and he's doing very well at it.  He is the son that claims he's going to run the family business some day.

I just got this referral from Clement Rajendra.  We did several jobs for him and his wife including a master bathroom, laminate flooring, painting, siding and some difficult leak repairs.  Since this is the family page, I thought it would appropriate to put this here:

"Mark is a thoroughly reliable hands-on contractor. The
quality of his workmanship is excellent. His family business has many trades
all rolled into one. He tells you what he would do and does what he says."
